Reddit User's Top Commercial Playground Concerns: Part 1

Written by Justin Doutrich | Jul 15, 2025 2:36:29 PM

Did you know that one of the major concerns people have about commercial playgrounds is who will install the commercial playground equipment?

We scoured online forums, such as Reddit and Quora, to find out what real people were discussing about commercial playgrounds and the common pain points they experienced when purchasing one. This blog post marks the beginning of a series that explores these pain points and how King Swings can help address or mitigate them.

Installation is a big subject. Three big components jump out:

1: The site where the playground is going to be installed.

2: Who is going to install it?

3: Will the installation meet all the standards and codes for safety?

Many people feel overwhelmed at this stage. That makes sense: most of the time, the people conducting the research are just ordinary individuals who served on a committee for their school, church, or HOA, and their everyday lives have little to do with commercial playgrounds. So, trying to make it all come together feels daunting.

That is where King Swings comes in: we are your turn-key partner that can help you through each step and stage. Let’s tackle the big, scary subject of delivery and installation, starting with your site.

Prepping Your Site for a Commercial Playground

One of the first things you will need to decide as a group or committee is where your playground will be. Coming to a consensus about a location can be difficult, but addressing the following concerns may narrow down the options, making the site more apparent.

Things to look out for are:

  1. Is there a parking lot or driveway that the kids have to run across to access the playground? Children should avoid crossing driveways or parking lots whenever possible.
  2. Is there standing/draining water in that location during the winter, or does that area get really soggy?
  3. Are there any trees that are rotten and might fall on the set? These should be removed unless they are healthy.
  4. Can parents/staff see the playground from the building? This helps keep an eye on the play.
  5. How accessible is the playground for people just passing by? You don’t want it up against the road or sidewalk if possible.
  6. If there is a slope, is it more than 12’’ over 20’ (that’s the max we can work without leveling the area)?

We are here to help you. Take some pictures or even a video of the area you are considering for your commercial playground and send it to us. We can review them and provide suggestions. If you need actual landscaping done to make the area playground-ready, we can help with that as well, provided you are within the range we can offer that service.

Who will install your commercial playground?

This is the big stresser. If you are a small business, HOA, school, church, or other entity, you may not have the resources to install the playground on your own. You probably don’t even want to do that. However, third-party installation can be costly and time-consuming, and it adds another moving part to the schedule.

With King Swings, our in-house crews do the delivery and installation. Once you place your order, our scheduling team will be in contact with you to arrange a delivery day. On delivery day, you will receive a trackable link showing the location of our installation crew.

Since our teams are all in-house, we have been in communication with HQ and are aware of the current status. They will meet with you to determine the location of the playground and then proceed with the work.

Because the design of our commercial playgrounds eliminates the need for cementing the playground into the ground, our installation team can complete most of our playgrounds in hours, not days. If you purchase wood or rubber mulch from us, we will also install it. We currently outsource poured-in-place rubber mulch and turf, but we handle the scheduling for you.

Our crews are the backbone of our operations. They receive glowing reviews in our residential line and are amazing guys who work hard, get the job done, and do it all with a smile.

Will the installation meet safety standards?

The installation of your commercial playground is an essential part of the overall safety. ASTM-compliant playgrounds have specific rules when it comes to installing the parts, and it can not be done haphazardly.

If your situation requires you to rely on volunteer help or a local handyman, it may take a significant amount of time to complete the installation, as you must measure, double-check, and refer back to the instructions for spacing.

King Swings solves this for you by doing the install. We don’t send you a box of parts, a paper instruction manual approximately the size of an entire encyclopedia collection, and a poorly designed app. No, we send out our own in-house crews that know the playground, know how to install it correctly, and get the job done efficiently.

Our installation fees are surprisingly affordable. Our delivery and installation process allows us to keep costs affordable. When compared to the headache, effort, and uncertainties of getting a volunteer crew or a local handyman, it’s an easy decision.
